Due to virus and malware issues, students will no longer be able to utilize flash or thumb drives on the UT network or computers. Students are asked to utilize their Google Drive to store all needed school work.
On Wednesday March 7th a Sing-A-Long will be held during all lunch periods in the library to celebrate Music in Schools week! Stop in the library before or after school to pick up a ticket to our Sing-A-Long. Tickets are limited!
Attention all UT students- have you purchased your 2017-2018 yearbook yet? If not, please listen up. The deadline to preorder a yearbook is next Friday, March 9th. The cost is $45 and may be purchased in the General Office. There will be a minimal number of extra yearbooks to purchase at the end of the year and the cost increases to $55 after the deadline. To ensure you receive a yearbook, get that book ordered as quickly as possible. You do not want to miss out on this opportunity for a fabulous memory keepsake.
Registration is currently taking place for the 2018 season of the United-Silvis Little League. The East Moline Park Board would like to bring East Moline Youth Baseball back to Jacobs Northeast Park. To bring EMYB back we need to increase the numbers of East Moline kids participating. There will be an informational meeting at 9:00 am on Saturday, March 3rd at the Glenview School library. Registration for the United-Silvis League will follow after the meeting. This program encompasses both boys and girls from T-ball age through high school. On Monday, March 5, the Choir will perform the Choir Pops Concert at 7pm in the Auditorium. They are performing empowering music from Broadway musicals, “Dear Evan Hansen” and “Hamilton: An American Musical”, as well as favorites from Pentatonix, Katy Perry, Queen, and Stevie Wonder. The public is invited and admission is free.
On Tuesday night, March 6, the Bands will perform the Mid-Winter Band Concert at 7pm in the Auditorium. The Bands will perform Foundry, by John Mackey, featuring inventive use of percussion; La Belle Helene, an Offenbach orchestral transcription; and The King of Love My Shepherd Is, a choral prelude by Alfred Reed, commissioned by UTHS in 1994, dedicated to the memory of Ron Ryerson, former UT history teacher and department chairperson. This is also the preview concert for Symphonic Band’s performance at the University of Northern Iowa Wind Band Invitational, which will take place in Cedar Falls, Iowa, March 8. The public is invited and admission is free.
“This year, UT is partnering with the Silvis Optimist Club to host the Optimist International Oratorical Contest. The contest is designed for youth to gain experience in public speaking and provide them with the opportunity to compete for a college scholarship. Students who enter will prepare a 4-5 minute speech on a specific prompt and present it in front of judges. Winners will advance to further competitions and be eligible for the grand prize scholarship of $22,500! This contest is open to ANY student who was under the age of 18 as of October 1, 2017. For more information, and to pick up an application and admission packet, please speak with Mr. Greer in room 125E. The UT competition will take place on March 28th, so don’t wait!”
Students and staff members, please remember to submit your nominations for the 3rd quarter John Deere special recognition awards. Students of any grade level and staff members can be nominated, but remember that only current seniors are selected to receive the award. The committee will select from 3rd quarter nominees on Tuesday, March 6th, so please get your nominations in as soon as possible. Thanks!
