SEAL OF BILITERACY PROGRAM


United Township High School is proud to announce that the Modern Languages department is starting the process to get approved by the state of Illinois to provide a State Seal of Biliteracy or State Commendation toward Biliteracy to those students who meet the necessary requirements.

The State Seal of Biliteracy is a recognition given to graduating high school students who have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in English and in reading, writing, listening and speaking in another language.

The State Commendation toward Biliteracy is a recognition given to graduating high school students who have demonstrated significant progress toward achieving a high level of proficiency in English and in reading, writing, listening and speaking in another language.

The Seal or Commendation will be placed on the student’s diploma and will be noted on his/her transcript. Currently the Seal and Commendation will be available only to students who demonstrate proficiency in both English and either Spanish or French. In future years, additional languages will be added.
