Juniors Brandi LaFountaine and Kendra Diamond were named as co-MVP’s at the UTHS Girls Swim Team Awards Banquet. LaFountaine, UTHS’s only state qualifier finished 20th in the 100 Backstroke at the IHSA State Swim Meet. LaFountaine was also the WB6 Champ in the 100 Backstroke for the third consecutive year. Diamond was also a WB6 Champion in the 200 IM. Both girls were UTHS top point earners over the season in dual meets and at invitationals. Sophomore Mia Franks was named Most Improved as she improved dramatically in her 20 Free and 500 Free from last year. Senior Kaisa Sommer was honored with the Captains Award for her leadership abilities through out the season. Western Big Six First Team All Conference awards went to LaFountaine and Diamond. Making the Daily Dispatch All-Metro Team were LaFountaine and Diamond. Honorable mention went to Sommer and junior Ali Ogden.
Brandi LaFountaine finished in 20th place in the 100 Backstroke at the IHSA State Swim Meet held at New Trier High School. LaFountaine finished in a time of :57.74, just .2 tenths off her IHSA Sectional Time, and only .6 seconds off qualifying for the finals and a top 12 finish held today at New Trier High School. LaFountaine, a junior, will look forward to improving her placing next year.
Having their best meet of the year, and building on their Conference Meet result, the UTHS Panther Girls had a very successful IHSA Sectional Swim Meet at the UTHS Swim Pool. The Panthers finished tied for 6th place in the 15 team field won by Dunlap High School. Brandi LaFountaine punched her ticket to the IHSA State Swim Meet, swimming under the state qualifying time in the 100 Backstroke with a lifetime best time of 57.54. Top six finishers for the Panthers were: LaFountaine (50 Free-5th-25.50, 100 Back-2nd-57.54), Kendra Diamond (200 IM-5th-2:17.01, 500 Free-4th-5:25.54), and the 200 Medley Relay (LaFountaine, Ali Ogden, Kaisa Sommer, Diamond-4th-1:56.37).

Despite a great meet, the UTHS Panther Girls Swim Team finished fourth at the Western Big Six Conference Championship Swim Meet held at Rock Island High School. The two time defending champs were lead by All-Conference selections Brandi LaFountaine (1st in the 100 Back-58.88), and Kendra Diamond (1st in the 200 IM-2:16.81). Other top six finishers were: Mia Franks (200 Free-6th, 500 free-6th), Ali Ogden (200 IM-6th, 100 Breast-6th), LaFountaine-50 free-2nd), Kaisa Sommer (100 Fly-5th, 100 Back-6th), Diamond (500 Free-2nd), 200 Medley Relay (LaFountaine, Ogden, Sommer, Diamond-2nd), 200 Free Relay (Ogden, Natalie Davis, franks, Develyn Whiles-4th), and the 400 Free Relay (Diamond, Sommer, LaFountaine, Franks-3rd). Rock Island won the meet with Moline finishing second, and Galesburg third.
The JV team showed good improvement in finishing 4th at the Western Big Six JV Invitational. Top six finishers for the Panthers were: Jasmine Westbrooks (50 free-2nd, 100 Back-5th), Ariel Wilcox (50 free-4th), Autumn Dillin (500 free-3rd), Evita Fazliu (100 Breast-5th), 200 Medley Relay (Westbrooks, Fazliu, Dillin, Alexis Lott-5th), 200 Free Relay (Westbrooks, Wilcox, Dillin, Jaylie Marberry-3rd), and the 400 Free Relay (Marberry, Lott, Wilcix, Whiles-4th).

Brandi LaFountaine, a junior on the UTHS Girls Swim Team, was named the Daily Dispatch Pace-Setter of the week for November 2, 2017. LaFountaine currently holds the second fastest time in the conference in the 50 Free and the fastest time in the conference in the 100 Back. Congrats to Brandi on a well deserved award!
In their last dual meet of the season the UTHS Panther Girls Swim Team got dunked by Moline at the Moline High School Pool. The Panthers were only able to win two events with those turned in by Brandi LaFountaine in the 50 Free (26.31) and the 100 Back (1:01.99). The Panthers will now get ready for the Western Big Six Conference Swim Meet on November 4, 2017 at Rock Island High School. The Panthers finish their dual meet season with a record of 3-4.
The JV team also lost to Moline 61-9. The young Panthers were shut out for wins. The JV team will also get ready for the Junior Varsity Western Big Six Invitational. They finish with a dual meet record of 2-5.

On senior night at the UTHS Swim Pool, the Panthers dominated the win column, winning 10 out of the 12 events, but just came up short in losing to Washington 92-87. The lone senior on the UTHS squad, Kaisa Sommer, was dominate in the meet, winning the 100 Free (59.27), the 100 Back (1:05.87), and a member of the winning 200 Medley Relay (2:01.27). Other winners for UTHS were: Mia Franks (200 Free-2:21.99), Kendra Diamond (200 IM-2:21.77, 500 Free-5:32.66), Brandi LaFountaine (50 free-25.84, 100 Fly-1:05.16), Alison Ogden (100 Breast-1:20.71), 200 Medley Relay (LaFountaine, Ogden, Sommer, Diamond-2:01.27), and the 400 Free Relay (Diamond, Franks, LaFountaine, Ogden-4;07.49).
The JV did win their meet by a score of 23-0. The winner for UTHS was Ariel Wilcox in both the 50 and 100 Free.

The UTHS Girls Swim Team travelled to Galesburg for the Galesburg Invitational and finished in 6th place out of 6 teams. The Panthers totaled 89 points. Dunlap won the meet with a total of 431 points. Top six finishers for the Panthers were: Kaisa Sommer (100 Fly-5th-1:07.10), and Brandi LaFountaine (100 Free-6th-58.98, 100 Back-3rd-1:01.35).

There will be a reception for all UTHS swimmers and their families after the meet in the UTHS Cafeteria. Ice cream sundaes will be served by the junior parents.
The Girls UTHS Panther Swim Team swam to a sixth place finish at the 12 team Panther Invitational. The Panthers swam very well, their best meet of the year, in scoring 97 points, just behind Moline who had 104 points. Winning the meet was Pleasant Valley, who edged Dunlap 273-271. Top six finishers for the Panthers were their top guns Kendra Diamond (200 IM-6th-2:19.24, 500 Free-5th-5:26.50), and Brandi LaFountaine (50 free-4th-25.74, 100 Back-4th-1:01.89). Other top six finishes were turned in by the 200 Medley Relay (LaFountaine, Ali Ogden, Kaisa Sommer, Diamond-5th-2:00.20), and the 400 Free Relay (Diamond, Sommer, LaFountaine, Mia Franks-4:03.51-6th).

The Sterling Golden Water Warriors came into the Panther Swim Pool and captured the 5th Annual Panther Sprint Classic with a total of 384 points. UTHS was second with 340 points, Morrison third with 228, and Newman Catholic finished fourth with 34. The Panthers were again hampered by disqualifications losing 50 points in the meet. The Panthers were lead by record setting Brandi LaFountaine who won the 50 Backstroke with a meet record of 27.78, and Kendra Diamond who won the 250 Freestyle with a time of 2:43.18. Other top three finishers were: Diamond (150 Free-2nd-1:31.54), Kaisa Sommer (100 IM-3rd-1:10.17), LaFountaine (50 free-2nd-26.02), Ali Ogden 950 Breast-2nd-36.77), 100 Medley Relay (LaFountaine, Ogden, Sommer, Mia Franks-2nd-59.57), and the 100 Free Relay (LaFountaine, Franks, Sommer, Diamond-3rd-53.79).
