This week for Mindful Monday, the H.O.P.E. Club encourages you to think about the power of saying “No.” Saying “no” is a form of self-care that allows us to prioritize our own needs and well-being. Society teaches us that the word “no” is impolite and inconsiderate. This can make us feel selfish and uncomfortable using it. However, saying “no” can be empowering, confidence boosting, and improve our mental health. This is NOT encouragement to say “no” to the things you need to do like homework, chores, and following the rules at school and home. Instead, think about the time when a friend asked you to do something but you would have rather stayed home to recharge or do something else. Did you go with your friend or did you stay home like you wanted to? This is an example of a time when saying “no” could be a useful tool. Be sure to turn your attention to the TV monitors for the Mindful Monday highlight that features a podcast giving you several reasons why saying “no” can be beneficial for you and ways to do it without feeling guilty.
